A Dialogue on WMI Recycling

" I've never seen such an unorganized bunch of people.

First they send out green recycle bins, when I told them I already had some.
I gave them away because they would not pick them up.

Shortly after I got the green bins (three) I'm told they will deliver Blue
rolling 42 gallon bins to hold combined recyclables in. Well they didn't
deliver, until about two weeks after they would normally pick up, so I had
to wait another two weeks to have the recycle material picked up. When they
did deliver the new blue bin they delivered to the wrong address (next
door...people who don't recycle).

Finally the day came when I could put the green bins out to be picked up on
the correct (printed) schedule along with the blue bin and the green garbage
bin. They didn't pick up the small green bins, but they did pick up the
garbage and later the recycle material.

This month they didn't pick up the recycle on schedule, so I waited two
weeks (I had emailed them and they answered back the day before the
scheduled pick up and told me that the next pickup wasn't until the end of
the month. I had already put the recycle bin out on schedule thinking
someone was wrong, but instead they through the recycle material in with the
garbage.

I truly would like to recycle, but I'm not going to be able to. I can't
figure out their schedule, and I'm not going to complicate my life to suit
them. Nor am I going to pay a premium to someone who can resell this stuff
and make profits that are not returned to the customer or the stock holders.
The garbage and recyclables goes in the gutter along with those god awful 40
gallon bins."

"I have found that different town/city councils make different arrangements. In the Dayton area, some people have no choice whereas in some other jurisdictions people have a choice. I imagine WMXI gives a higher payoff of "user fees" to a jurisdiction in which they give them a monopoly. Then they can cut their costs with poor service on recycling!"

"Why is it that Waste Management has a hold on every possible collection like
Comcast has with cable TV? Other states and municipalities allow for
competition and pickups by other companies, why can't I contract with
someone else? The most serious complaint, is that we don't have a choice. And there seems to be no way of rectifying this unless you have tons of money and political influence. And complaint answers from the company or companies often don't even address the original complaint.

We don't have a choice in Cable in our area.
We don't have a choice in garbage or recycle (unless we take it to the
station ourselves and then pay again.)
We don't have much of a choice in TV News when all the stations are owned by
the same group."
