Toronto Recycling Reaches 49%
Toronto recycled 49% of the single family households in 2004. The 2005 figures have not been released. When one includes multifamily residential dwellings The figure is 36%. has risen from 2000 of 25% to 2003 of 32%. The major increase for 2004 has been the installing of the Green Bin Program of separated organics. Since the program was not installed in the entire city until near the end of 2005 the percentage should increase in 2005 and 2006 from this new program.
The city had committed itself to diverting 60% from their Michigan landfill and 100% by 2010. Actually, its goal is now 60% by 2008 and 100$ by 2012.
