CAPE MAY COUNTY LANDFILL
“The CMCMUA's Sanitary Landfill (SLF) is a state-of-the-art, double-lined landfill located in
the northern section of the County. This facility, which began operations in May 1984, on
an initial 52 acre area (Phase I, Cells 1A, 1B and 1C) provides leachate collection and
storage with subsequent treatment at one of the Authority's four (4) regional wastewater
treatment facilities. The CMCMUA's Sanitary Landfill is fully permitted to be expanded to
serve both the short and long-term disposal needs of Cape May County. Specifically, the
Authority will fully utilize the capacity of the above-noted landfill cells in conjunction with
the Authority's development of three (3) new landfill cells on 42 adjacent acres within the
existing site. Construction of the fourth landfill cell was completed in late 1998, with
disposal commencing in that cell (Cell 1D) in July 1999. Continuing to maximize recycling
efforts will enable Cape May County to maintain solid waste self-sufficiency for the next
30 - 40 years.”

SOLID WASTE TRUCK ROUTES FOR UPPER TWONSHIP
“In accordance with New Jersey solid Waste Regulations (N.J.A.C. 7:26-3.4), all solid waste vehicles used for transportation of solid waste shall, except for operation of their collection service routes, access and exit solid waste facilities in accordance with designated truck routes as specified herein.
Please be advised that all vehicles hauling solid waste for disposal at the CMCMU Sanitary Landfill are required to utilize the Garden State Parkway, and/or U.S. Route #9, State Route 47, County Road 611, County Road #557, and/or County Road #550 to gain access to or exit from the Sanitary Landfill which is located on Route 610. Drivers are prohibited from using any other routes to access or exit the Sanitary Landfill, especially those which pass through residential areas of Upper Township and Dennis Township”
West Oakland Residents Choking on Toxic Diesel Exhaust
Indoor Air in Some Homes 5x More Toxic Than Other Parts of Oakland
“Diesel pollution is the most toxic air pollutant in California. Over a lifetime, West Oakland residents may be exposed to hundreds of times the cancer risk considered significant under federal law just from breathing this polluted air. With truck trips through West Oakland set to double as the Port of Oakland expands over the coming years, we’ve got to get serious about reducing diesel pollution,” said Meena Palaniappan, a Senior Research Associate with the Pacific Institute.”

RESOLUTION NO. 051-2006 - RENEWING MINING LICENSES AS FOLLOWS:
“15. 2006 Mining License Renewals.
Mr. Dietrich reported that this is the year that requires each mining operation to provide a survey to insure operations are within their plan. There were a few complaints received about the mining operations. Complaints about Action Supply/Atlantic Masonry included dirt on the roadway, which were usually handled quickly. There were also some outstanding violations where Mr. Tower extended his mining operations and activities onto a lot that is not authorized for that use. The Zoning Officer is currently working with Mr. Tower to have the site come into compliance. There was one complaint for dredging at night at Julies Pit/Hanson Aggregates. Mr. Dietrich has been in contact with the supervisor of the facility to insure the plant stays compliant. Moved by Barbara Camp, second by Curtis Corson to approve licenses.”

HISTORY AND MISSION

Williamsburg /Greenpoint O.U.T.R.A.G.E. (Organizations United for Trash Reduction and Garbage Equity,) is a coalition of more than two dozen community and civic groups which came together in 1999 to address the growth of the waste industry in East Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
In the late 1990’s, East Williamsburg and Southern Greenpoint, became the center of commercial waste processing in New York City. We currently have 16 waste transfer stations (WTS) processing 30% of the city's total garbage. Each day, over 4,000 trucks carrying 13,000 tons of trash rumble through our streets. This causes congestion, pollution, asthma, and stench.
In the summer of 1999, over 20 community and civic groups signed on to support the new Williamsburg/Greenpoint Organizations United for Waste Reduction and Garbage Equity. or O.U.T.R.A.G.E. to combat this problem and stop the proliferation of the waste industry in Williamsburg and Greenpoint and improve the quality of life for their neighbors.

THE PREFERRED COMMUNITIES FOR LANDFILLS AND SAND MINING
Did you know, that in the decision making process of where to place a landfill, the top determining factors are, areas that are considered low income communities, communities where the people are kept uninformed, and do not have the resources to fight back. Check out www.stopwmx.org
Well, that is us the preferred ones.
Woodbine, Rt. 610, Rt. 50, Rt. 631 and Tuckahoe are considered middle/lower income areas, making these areas the perfect locations for landfills and sand mining. All attract pollution, all attract trucks, all cause deterioration to our quality of life, and all are a threat to our health and safety.
Check out www.stopwmx.org see who our officials are doing business with, see what elements they have placed in our backyard.
How many of us are fed up with being considered less than important because we are classified as middle/low income?
How many of us are fed up with the trucks, with the noise pollution, with the air pollution and with the ground pollution?
How many of us are fed up with the landfill attracting all kinds of waste hauling companies that violate laws, all for the sake of money?
How many of us are fed up with the sand mines depleting our resources and attracting all kinds of trucks.
How many of us are willing to put a stop to the way these companies are making their millions at no cost to them, but at a cost to us?
If you are ready to fight back, there are resources available even to us poor folks.
Contact the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey (ACLU). They are there to help people like us who’s rights to a safe and healthy environment are being violated and who are being discriminated against. (Information attached)
We can also put a stop to all of this by showing them we are not the ignorant, uninformed, unresourceful people that they base their decisions on. We can organize a coalition to fight back the big companies and the officials. It has been done, successfully, in other States, in other Counties, in other Municipalities.
Check out www.stopwmx.org.
How much longer can we allow these dangerous elements to continue before it affects the health of the community permanently?
Do we really want the dump in our community for the next 40 to 50 years?
Do we really want the sand mining companies to continue until there is nothing left?
Is this the legacy we want to leave our children? Unsafe community and poor quality of life? To be considered unworthy? If we don’t protect our children and ourselves who will?

Re.: Illegal Truck Traffic on Rt. 631, Rt. 50 and Rt. 610
Noise Pollution, Ground Pollution and Air Pollution
Your responses to my letters have been great. All of you thanking me for sharing my concerns with you, appreciating citizens like me who keep you informed. All of you shuffling my official complaints to the appropriate agency and ending what few responses to me by saying, “I hope this information is very helpful.”
Just to clear any misunderstandings, I am not sharing my day with all of you, I can find better things to do with my valuable time than to share it with you. I am filing official complaints with those who are empowered with laws enacted to protect the public and positions of authority that allow you to protect the public from harm.
I am informing you, not sharing with you that you are responsible for the sleep depravation we suffer from, you are responsible for our eyes, nose and throat burning from the fumes expelled by the trucks, you are responsible for the excruciating noise generated by the trucks, you are responsible for the high volume of speeding vehicles that are attracted by the speeding trucks, you are responsible for our wells drying up, you are responsible for all the trash on our streets, you are responsible for any one who is or will suffer asthma, you are responsible for any cancer that will arise from all the pollution, you are responsible for our homes falling apart, you are responsible for the discrimination against those of us considered unworthy of protection, you are responsible for allowing Waste Management to conduct business and grow at a fast rate, hand in hand with our landfill, you are responsible for allowing Earthech, a waste hauling company to place its yard/trucks on a “No Solid Waste Hauling Route,“ you are responsible for allowing a landfill to be located and expand its operation for the next 30 to 40 years in our community, you are responsible for any material being transported through our residential community, including flammable fuels, you are responsible for turning our residential roads into main feeds for any one and anything to speed through, you are responsible for the retaliation inflicted on us, and do you know why? Because you have been repeatedly notified of the conditions, which have led to and will lead to the above health and safety issues. You are responsible for not enforcing laws, you are responsible for renewing licenses to companies who are depleting our natural resources, and you are responsible for allowing the landfill not only to operate in our community but allowing it to extend more and more into our community.

Hey, maybe one of these days a truck carrying the flammable fuels or hazardous material will turn over instead of just sand trucks and maybe the next truck will not miss the house by a few feet.
YOU ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE BY WAY OF ACTS OF NEGLIGENCE
I hope this information is very helpful to you.

I am in receipt of your letter dated August 10, 2006, once again thanking me for my concerns regarding New Jersey’s environment.
I would like to once again re-iterate that these are not just concerns, but official complaints regarding the destruction of our environment.
In your letter, you answered my question regarding the importation of trash from other counties and your answer is “Please be advised that Cape May County does not import solid waste from other New Jersey counties or from out of State.”
So, the Earthtech trucks, Waste Management trucks, and all the dump trucks filled with trash traveling South on the Garden State Parkway, exiting from exit 25 on the GSP, turning right onto Roosevelt Boulevard in Marmora, proceeding onto the “No Solid Waste Hauling Routes” and State Highway 9 Southbound, which takes them to the Cape May County landfill, are doing what? Taking the trash for a joy ride before dumping it at the landfill? Collecting from Cape May County and delivering it via the adjoining Counties?
I guess when they decided to place the landfill in a middle/low income community the consensus was middle/low income/stupid community.
Thank you for your uniformed response. I will add it to my extremely large file for future reference.
